Recent Earthquake report of Darjeeling Pulbazar Development Block shows that 1446 number of houses were fully damaged and 3864 houses were partly damaged [As per survey report].There were no reports of deaths from the Valley.It has been said that special Earthquake fund will be sanctioned for the victims of entire district of Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong as per damages like HB Grants [House Building Grants].Several camps have been set up around the region and food material and other necessary items like blankets,cloths are being supplied for the people who have been shifted from their houses.Government is trying to help the people through every possible aspects.
Landslide at Happy Valley Tea Estate
A landslide took place above Happy Valley Estate a place at a distance of around 1 km from Darjeeling market.The continues rainfall since several day and earthquake that took place on 18th of September is the reason for the landslide.The road to Singmari and Lebong has been blocked.The landslide took place around 9:44 at night [Sunday ie;25.09.2011].There is no report of any damages and loss of life but the local residents below the road have been said to leave their houses since the area may be at risk and may cause damages.

Darjeeling again back to its normal life spreading the message of love and peace.Continuous rain has stopped life has come to normal as usual.It was the Natures decision whatever it faced on 18th September 2011 an unfortunate day in our life.Nature is everything a man can not change the way its.Darjeeling is a loveliest place among different hill stations just because of Nature.It was a warning to the people of Darjeeling and its surrounding areas.It was notified to the People of the hills not to construct multi storied buildings in Darjeeling but it was not followed by us,everyone kept on large construction

An area around 100 feet in width has been cracked as shown in the figure above damaging around 40 houses.The area may sink or slide anytime which may destrioy around 30 families of the locality.

Parijat (1937–1993) was a Nepali writer. Her real name was Bishnu Kumari Waiba but she wrote under the pen name Parijat. Her most acclaimed publication is Siris Ko Phul (The Blue Mimosa), which has also been adapted in the literature curriculum of some colleges in some English-speaking countries.
Parijat was born in 1937 in the hill station of Darjeeling, India, a place known for its tea gardens. Because her mother Amrita Moktan died early, she was raised by her father Dr. K.N. Waiba, who was a psychologist, and her grandparents.

Mahakavi Laxmi Prashad Devkota was born on November 12, 1909 at Thatunati presently known as Dhobidhara Kathmandu.Devkota was the third son of Pandit Til Madhav and Amar Rajya Laxmi Devi. He was born in Thatunati (now Dhobidhara), Kathmandu on the day of Dipawali, the Festival of Lights, which is a celebration of Laxmi, the Goddess of Wealth. Traditional ways of saving maize for future use
Maize (मकै) : Maize is one of the major cultivation carried out in few areas of Darjeeling.Its believed that maize helps to keep body warm so people eat maize during winter season mostly.Maize usually termed as corn in most of the English speaking countries.
The figure shows how maize is kept for future use.These system of keeping maize is locally termed as 'Thangra' (थाङ्ग्रा ) in Nepali language.Its said that this method of keeping maize hanged in bamboos covered with typical type of grass locally called Siru prevents it from spoilage and remains safe from rats and rabbits.
{Siru is typical type of grass normally found around hill areas,these type of grass are used to make roofs of houses but are rarely seen nowadays }

Typical Nepali old House

This type of houses were made during olden days which are rarely found these days.The pillars are made from bamboo and the roofs are of typical type of grass locally named 'Siru',walls are of mud beautifully furnished and colored.Its said that this type of houses are warm in winter and cool in summer.the floor are furnished with the mixture of cow dung and mud.
